We are proud to announce that the invited speaker of CLOW3 is Ulrich Ammon.
Ulrich Ammon has been professor of sociolinguistics at the University of Duisburg-Essen and president of GAL (Gesellschaft für Angewandte Linguistik), the German branch of AILA (International Association of Applied Linguistics). He has been a visiting professor to 14 countries – for longer periods of time (one semester or more) in USA (U. of North Carolina, Chapel Hill), Australia (U. of Sydney, Australian National U. in Canberra), Japan (Dokkyo U. in Soka) and Austria (U. of Vienna). He has published 16 monographs, his newest being Die Stellung der deutschen Sprache in der Welt (2015) and about 300 articles, and co-authored as well as edited or co-edited, inter alia, The Dominance of English as a Language of Science; Effects on Other Languages and Language Communities (2001); Sociolinguistics: An International Handbook (3 vols., 2nd ed. 2004-6); Wieser Encyclopaedia Western European Languages (2 vols., 2008); Variantenwörterbuch des Deutschen (2nd ed. 2016) and the yearbook Sociolinguistica (1987 ff.). He continues teaching a Ph.D course as well as researching and publishing at the University of Duisburg-Essen.
